TES representatives attend a specific film at selected theaters to verify patron attendance and obtain box office receipts information (tickets sold) from the theater management at the request of the distributor of that film.

The TES representatives work unobtrusively at the theater to collect patron counts of each requested performance. Box office information is collected from the theater management at a time convenient to both parties. Often times studios will request that every showtime of a specific feature for a given day be checked. This would entail a representative being at the theater to count the patrons for each showtime. It does not require a representative to be at the theater all day, only long enough to count the patrons for every requested feature.
